Choose a Platform for Freelancing

The first step is to choose a platform to start freelancing although I am talking about Fiverr but if you are new I recommend choosing a platform based on your comfort zone and preferences. Maybe you can get more success in other platform so it's better to explore and stick to something that feels good and takes you towards your goal. I am not forcing every beginner to use Fiverr it's just a platform I find easier and it worked for a lot of beginners. If you haven't chosen a platform yet I recommend checking out my post about this topic.

Figure out your skills

Before we proceed you have to be clear about your skills and you should have a mindset about what you will offer on Fiverr. What will you sell? If you have any skill you are ready to go but if you don't have a skill or something to offer you can either learn something based on your interest or find someone who can do jobs for you can have your cut. This way you can earn without the skill but you should have excellent communication skills to do this. Although communication skills are required either way because you have to convince the buyer to buy your services. Here are some main skills you can learn. There are sub-skills you can also learn like Logo design is a sub-skill of Graphic Design.
  • Graphic Design
  • Digital Marketing
  • Writing and Translation
  • Video and Animation
  • Music and Audio
  • Programming and Tech
  • Business
  • Lifestyle
These are the categories you can see on Fiverr. We recommend checking out Fiverr's homepage to and see all the categories and pick one to learn.

Make a Seller profile on Fiverr

The next step is to make a seller profile on Fiverr. Just go to www.fiverr.com and sign up as a seller. You will have to fill basic information and an important part is choosing a username. You should choose a username that is related to your services that you are going to sell. If you are a Graphic Designer some username examples are;

  • faster_graphics
  • john_gfx
  • visuals_sara
  • qucikdesigns
It's up to your choice you can put your name also but my experience is that niche related usernames perform better. Another main step is to upload a professional picture of yourself a face closeup is recommended. Write a good description of yourself and explain yourself and your experience. You can link your social media and add any certificates you have or add your education. You have to complete your profile and it shouldn't look like something's missing. Take your time and fill out all the information. You can connect your Payment method may be your bank, PayPal account or Payoneer account whatever you prefer. Or you can do this step later.

Do some research

After your profile is complete you should visit Fiverr homepage and the category in which you are going to sell just click it and see the top results you can also type your skill in the Fiverr search bar and open the first 5 or 10 gigs. Make sure to go through each and check out their title, description, prices, tags, images, and everything. Also, take notes of important points like what are your competitors offering? At what Price? In how many days? What title are they using?
This information will give you an idea about what you have to offer and an average selling price. It's important to know your competitors. The buyer has to choose between them and you so it's important. You can keep doing research from time to time and see your progress but research before making a gig is very beneficial.

Create a Gig

So here we are creating a gig. After the above steps, you have to create a gig. Just go to your Dashboard and Gigs and on this page, you will see create a new gig button. Just click it.

fiverr page with create a new gig button

After clicking this button you will see a page like this.

On this page, there are options like the Gig title. Just put in the title based on your research like I will design an eye-catching logo. You can always change it later but for the first time choose a title with more keywords and after creating this gig change it to a user-friendly title. Then, choose the category from the dropdown and add tags. You can add up to 5 tags. For choosing tags put in some keyword related to your service and choose a tag from the dropdown. Click save and continue and put pricing, description, requirements, add an image and publish. In requirements, you have to put things you need to know in order to start working for the client. For making a business card you need to know the company name and contact info. For images you can put up to three images and dimensions are 550 Pixels by 370 Pixels. There are options to upload videos and PDF also. You should create your own image make sure it is attractive and looks good. Use Photoshop, Illustrator to create images but if you don't know how to use them you can go to Canva.com and make some designs it's super simple.

After you click publish your gig will be in Fiverr search engine and buyers can see your gig. Just go to Gigs and your gig will be there. Congratulations your gig is live and you are ready to sell on Fiverr.

Promote your Gig

The final step is to promote your gig. Your gig is of no use if no one sees it. Just share the link of your gig on your social media and it will help you get a head start because in the beginning it is difficult to get order due to no traffic on your gig. And if you manage to get some clicks on your gig it will boost your gig ranking and you will definitely get sales.

Conclusion

In the end, I would say it is a simple process. And I hope you like this post.
